Classics Dance Theatre debuted on September 12, 1998. To date, Classics Dance Theatre’s repertoire features over 30 choreographic works with 8 world premieres. Most notable are the four full-length ballets, Little Women, A Christmas Carol, Peter Pan, and The Diary of Anne Frank, all choreographed by Artistic Director, Catherine Barribal. The repertoire also includes classic and contemporary original works choreographed by company dancers. These works include: The Enchanted Garden, Five Studies, Summertime, Ma Mere L’Oye, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, Oceana Revisited, The Village, The Tales of Beatrix Potter and The English Symphony, among others.
Classics Dance Theatre tours throughout New England, having produced performances in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Vermont, as well as New York.
Classics Dance Theatre has been invited to perform as a part of the Wallace Weekend Series at the Greenwich Academy in Greenwich, Connecticut; the Pentangle Council for the Arts in Woodstock, Vermont; and the Stamford, CT Board of Education. The Company also runs a variety of educational outreach programs: Invitation to the Dance, a one-day experience for students to join the company onstage; an extended version for a three-day intensive; and Community Classics, a residency program within schools.
Classics Dance Theatre has been supported in part by the Stamford Cultural Development Corporation, the William and Mary Greve Foundation, the Irwin Belk Foundation, the Stamford Board of Education, Stamford Chamber of Commerce, General Electric, Crystal Rock, and Conair, as well as small businesses and individual donations.
Since inception, Classics Dance Theatre has maintained an apprentice program that gives young dancers the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the ballet company, providing them with professional experience. Our apprentices have matriculated to professional companies and college conservatory programs including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Joffrey Ballet Ensemble, Bossov Ballet Theatre, Richmond Ballet, Alberta Ballet, American University, Montclair State College in New Jersey, and New York University.
